Conversations That Illuminate | Episode 3 | Chris Ratter

What would you do if the spirit world began knocking, not gently, not poetically, but insistently, disruptively, in the middle of an ordinary Tuesday on the cobbled streets of Edinburgh?

Would you trust it? Or would you reach for a more comfortable explanation?

For Chris Ratter,  trance healer, psychic surgeon, and one of the most quietly extraordinary voices in the Lightworker community,  that was not a hypothetical question. It was the defining crisis of his life. And the answer he eventually chose, after months of fear and sleepless nights, changed everything.

The answer was trust.

The Long Preparation

The spirit world, Chris will tell you, is extraordinarily patient. It does not rush. It simply prepares.

Chris can trace that preparation all the way to boyhood, to the weekends he spent roaming the grounds of Blackness Castle in Scotland, where his grandfather served as custodian.

Alone on those ancient grounds, he played a private game: pushing the edges of his own consciousness, testing how far his awareness could reach. He saw figures moving through the house at night. The second sight,  as Scotland has always called it,  had come down through his grandfather's lineage, rooted in the Shetland Isles, where seers and healers were simply part of the fabric of community life.

And then life happened. Decades as an antique dealer. Twenty years driving a Hackney cab through Edinburgh. The spirit world waited patiently.

It was preparing him. He just didn't know it yet.

When Trust Feels Impossible

At 38, the knocking became impossible to ignore.

For months, Chris was seeing spirit while driving his taxi,  pulling over for fares that weren't there, hearing voices the moment he closed his eyes. His first instinct was not wonder. It was dread. His uncle had been diagnosed with schizophrenia. Was something breaking down inside him?

This is the moment so many Lightworkers in the midst of spiritual awakening know intimately,  when what is actually an opening feels indistinguishable from unraveling. When the most terrifying possibility is not that you're experiencing something real, but that you might be losing your mind.

It was the memory of his grandfather that finally moved him. Before calling a doctor, he walked into a Spiritualist Church in Edinburgh. The first visit brought nothing. The second brought everything.

At the very end of the service, the medium conducting the service came directly to Chris who was sitting quietly in the back row, hoping to be invisible,  and simply said:

"You're not mad, by the way."

Six small words. A lifetime of relief.

She showed him how to work with what was happening rather than against it. Within a week, the torrent had settled. Trust, it turned out, was not a feeling he needed to manufacture. It was a door he simply needed to walk through.

This is precisely why spiritual community matters,  and why spaces like Global Lightworkers United exist. Chris walked through his awakening entirely alone, with no framework and no one to turn to. One Spiritualist Church, one medium, and six words changed the entire trajectory of his life. No Lightworker should have to wait that long for someone to say: what you are experiencing is real, and you are not alone.

Trusting What You Cannot Fully Understand

Here is what makes Chris's story so vital for the broader Lightworker community: he did not wait until he understood before he trusted. He trusted first, and understanding followed.

Today he works as one of the world's foremost trance healers and psychic surgeons, channeling healing energy in deep alliance with a team of spirit doctors. He works with elemental beings, with galactic presences, with healing technology so far beyond ordinary comprehension that he simply gives himself over to it.

Does he fully understand all of it? No. Does that stop him?

"I simply give myself over to it," he says. "I trust. And I think that trust is essential on this journey."

The spirit world does not require your certainty. It requires your willingness.

Trust, for Chris, is also a daily practice, sitting in the power each morning, entering the silence, letting his spirit absorb what it needs. And it continues to be rewarded in ways that still astonish him. While placing his hands on his pregnant daughter's abdomen, he heard his unborn granddaughter's voice speak clearly:

"Hello. I'm Sophie. And I have a gift, just like yourself."

The gifts do not end. They pass forward. The spirit world is always building something.

His closing message to every Lightworker finding their way: Think outside the box. Be an individual. Don't be a clone. And trust what comes.

From the grounds of a Scottish castle to the healing rooms of Edinburgh and far beyond, that trust has never once let him down.
